October Month Update

Dear Members,

In October, we have provided street lighting at 11 primary spots in the village. Each of the light fixture includes alumination casing, supporting rods, patti, choke, tube light and the wiring. Each fixture cost RS 725 and the total effort cost is Rs 8000. The Electrician labour cost  was around RS 30 for each fixture and it was volunteerily borne by the villagers.

We have replaced few of the leaking public water taps which cost RS 300. But few of them were immediately broken by the villagers when the water flow was very low in few of the areas. We are planning to address this in a different way (given at the end).

Tree plantation has turned out to be bigger task (both cost-wise and effort-wise) than originally planned. We have planted another 200 hundred tree saplings in the remaining parts of the village. This time we were able to get saplings at a very nominal rate (Rs 5) per sapling from Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam Nursery. The effort cost us Rs 9000 which includes the cost of sapling, transportation, pit digging and fencing. The plants planted in phase 1 are growing well(pictures have been requested and will be posted when available).

The total cost for the month is RS 17300. USD 200 (RS 8600) has been contributed by Gramaseva members and the remaining amount of RS 8700 by Mr. Bala Krishna Reddy.

November Month Agenda

We would be constructing base structure for 4 hand water pumps in the village. The approximate effort cost would be RS 10,000.

Other Updates

Mr. Raja Gopal Reddy, Nayudupeta, AP is a native of the Eekollu village and has requested to sponsor a mini-water storage tank for a high lying area in the village. The effort cost would be around Rs 20,000. This is planned for the month of December.

Anjan Bhattacharjee of Charleston, WV, USA has come forward to set-up a small library in the school premises. The approximate effort cost would be Rs 15,000. This is planned for the month of January.

We should all be proud of our efforts!!

September Month Update!

Dear Members,

As discussed during the previous update,  our charity has planted 320 tree saplings in the Eekollu village.  The sapling were planted on both sides of the road starting from the main road and covering the entire 2 kilometer stretch of the village. We have also planted some flowering plants in the government school premises.

Thuraya, Kanaga, Neem and Gangareni tree varieties were selected. These varieties provide good shade, grow faster and are not grazed by the cattle.

The saplings were fenced with thorny bushes to protect them for at least next 3 to 4 months. Since this is monsoon season in AP, the survival rate should be pretty good. It has been more than 2 weeks now – except for 5 to 6 saplings rest of them are growing good.

There has been good support from the villagers – they have provided manure, fencing material and are watering the saplings. Special thanks to Mr.Manohar, a resident of the village who coordinated most of the effort.

The entire effort cost us Rs 17,500.

October’s Month Agenda

The villagers have requested to fix some street lights and leaking water taps. This should not cost us much. I will keep you posted.

In a years time, we all will be proud of helping a village become green!!

And thanks for all the support.
